Like many health professionals, its easy for me to get wrapped up in the physical aspect of health. In reality, your mental state and life outlook are just as important as your physical health. Without one it is hard to have the other. The brain and gut connection has been studied and it isn’t some made up voodoo. I have encountered many clients who are being held back by only one thing, themselves. Todays post is all about some of the steps you can take to improve your outlook on life and hopefully make positive changes mentally and physically.
Practice Gratefulness: Too often it’s easy to get wrapped up in the lows of life and forget about the highs. If you live in North America, you have much to be grateful for! Gratefulness is about being deeply thankful for everything in your life, not just the big things. Taking 5 minutes every day to think about the things you are grateful for can completely change your day and give you a positive boost. The smallest of things are worth appreciating. Food, water and shelter are something much of the world does not have. We are so fortunate to live where we do.
Give Without Expecting To Receive: This is tough one. Some people require a lot of us with little to nothing received in return. Many people in the world help others, but often it is with alternative motives. I want to encourage to help people just because! If you are thankful for the life you have, you should want others to share your Joy. Sometimes this requires giving of yourself without any return.
Stop Victimizing Yourself: You are not the way you are because of someone or something else. How you react to people and situations determines who you are. Yes, you are shaped by your experiences but they do not define you. I know people with life threatening diseases who still choose to live each day with Joy, and never blame their illness for any other choices they make in their life. This doesn’t happen right away, we are all going to experience sad, and even traumatising, times. How you choose to keep living life after those experiences makes all the difference. When a new client comes to me and has a million excuses for why they are the way they are, I know they aren’t ready yet. I can’t fix you, I can only help you after you have taken ownership for where you are at.
LIVE life: Don’t let a day pass without enjoying how beautiful life can be. Despite the many tragedies occurring all around us, life itself is beautiful. Why else would we hang onto it so tightly? Spend time with your family and friends. Pursue your goals but don’t make success your life mission. Be kind to everyone and take the opportunities that come your way. If your health is preventing you from doing these things, invest in it! Do everything you can to be your best self.
I am grateful for all of YOU!
