If you clicked on this post hoping I would bash Crossfit, your going to be disappointed. CrossFit is where I found my real passion for health and fitness. It’s where I embraced being a strong woman who could outlift most men. I would not be doing what I’m doing now if it weren’t for CrossFit. I still believe CrossFit is an amazing sport that can help people get in shape faster than any other routine I have yet come upon. That doesn’t mean its for everyone, and that’s ok! Whatever your activity of choice is, make sure you love it! At the very least you need to love what it does for you. Today I want to share some tips for picking the best workout routine for you! Here are three components every workout program should include:
Strength training: Many people take up exercise routines such as walking or running. These activities will build up bone and muscle strength initially but they don’t target the whole body. Investing in some bands, dumbbells or a barbell will make it easy to incorporate simple strength training exercises into your routine.
Core training: All movements originate in your core. Having a strong core can prevent poor posture, back injuries and a host of other issues. Some of the best exercises you can do for your core are static holds. A plank is a perfect example of this. Its also important to add in some rotational movement as many activities require us to move side to side.
Heart training: There are benefits to both aerobic (long and slow) and anaerobic (fast and short) training but I know not everybody wants to participate in both. Participating in at least one will keep your heart healthy and young. If the activity you participate in doesn’t raise your heart rate, or cause you to sweat, it may be time to increase the intensity.
Choose something that challenges you, but also uplifts you. It should be an activity you look forward to and feel better after completing. It should fit into your schedule and not feel like a chore. What’s best for me, may not be what’s best for you!
