Once a month I have a day or two where my sweet tooth kicks in. Ladies, you know what I’m talking about. A year ago I would have sat down with a tub of Haagen Dazs and eaten the whole thing myself, but I’ve come a long from then and know that it is not worth the stomach ache. I’ve had variations of dessert date balls over the year and liked every flavour. I decided to put my own spin on it and make a date ball that had the flavours of a Reese’s cup. When made correctly you can’t even tell that dates are the base of the recipe, the texture end up very fudge like. One or two of these little treats is enough to satisfy your cravings and keep you on track.
You will need:
1/8 cup of maple syrup
1/4 cup peanut butter
Cocoa: I used 3 TBSP but I suggest start light and add until you get the desired flavour/texture
Start by putting all the ingredients into the food processor. If you don’t have a food processor you can dice the dates up and then add the other ingredients using your hands to kneed the “dough”. Process until you have a dough like ball.
Next, measure out a tsp of dough and roll it into a ball. Continue to do this until all the dough has been rolled in small balls.
You can add texture by rolling the date balls in a coating of coconut. I’ve also seen people roll them in a variety of crushed nuts.
That’s it, short and sweet! Enjoy!
